Darlene was deeply woven into the art community—active in guilds, creative groups, and the studio scenes of Boulder and the Santa Fe art district—before she built her own backyard studio.

She was an abstract expressionist. She colorfully blended, swirling paint and melted crayons into paintings that were always changing and evolving. Color was her composition — layering, splattering, dripping, and squeezing paint and dye pigments from multiple points. Her mind was full of fragmented ideas and patterns that spilled out in shapes, drops, and drips, bouncing and crashing into each other… and she enjoyed every minute of it.

Darlene left a lasting legacy of engagement, creativity, and the belief that art is best explored with joy, collaboration, and fearless curiosity. Her spirit continues to inspire you, urging you to explore, create, and find delight in the endless possibilities of art.
